I want to search for species (I prefer to search for genera | families | orders) Search Help

I want to search by:
Class Order Family Genus
Species Scientific Name Species Common Name
Text search:

You can search the database for taxa of terrestrial vertebrates in four Classes-Mammalia (mammals), Aves (birds), Amphibia (amphibians), Reptilia (reptiles)-and the lower taxonomic levels within these Classes. To obtain a list of all taxa within a taxonomic group, select the appropriate radio button and leave the text box blank. For notes on taxonomies followed, please see Data Sources and Credits.

I want to restrict results to threatened species:

Use Ctrl key to select multiple
Threatened species are those classed as Critically Endangered, Endangered or Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. At present, it is not possible to search by other IUCN categories of threat.

Presence/Endemism in hotspot(s):
To widen your search, select "Occurring in."

Use Ctrl key to select multiple

View Map
"Endemic to" is the default value; search results will give taxa that are found only in the hotspot(s) and nowhere else. If you want to widen your search, select "Occurring in" to report on all species present, whether endemic or not.

Selecting two or more hotspots (e.g. Atlantic Forest and Cerrado) will generate results based on the combined area of those hotspots. Selecting "Any Hotspots" will generate results based on the combined area of all 34 hotspots.
